Help for Yourself

Help for Yourself

Why should you seek addiction treatment?  Because your life matters!

Okay, we know that you may not feel like your life matters from time to time, but it does. Even if there are family members, friends or acquaintances who may seemingly have given up on you due to a history of interactions, situations, and circumstances that have caused wounds and hurt feelings…your life still matters.

There is an emotional component of addiction which if not realized and addressed plays a significant role in keeping you locked into a cycle of use.  Feelings of embarrassment shame, and guilt can be devastating, even paralyzing.  These emotions, along with feelings of depression and disappointment will affect what you believe about yourself.  What you believe about yourself is directly related to your behavior, and vice versa. It’s a vicious cycle.  We want to help you to understand who you are as a valuable, unique human being, that even though you may have an addiction, you are still a valuable and unique individual.

Cycle of addiction

Addiction is defined as a chronic, relapsing brain disease that is characterized by compulsive drug seeking and use.  It is a serious problem requiring effective intervention to achieve recovery. Addiction can happen to anyone at any time and it does not matter who they are, substance abuse does not discriminate. People often use drugs and alcohol as a means of numbing themselves against problems caused by stress, pain or trauma. Casual or social use can quickly turn deadly and abuse can escalate into full-blown addiction within a relatively short amount of time, and as a result the situation gets worse.

Treatment is essential to lasting recovery. The decision to come to treatment is a critical one that sets in motion a chain of events that can heal the lives of persons addicted to substances and their entire support system of loved ones and family members. Sadly, attitudes of denial and fear can be an obstacle to some in making that critical decision to choose treatment.  We are here to help, and open to answering any questions you may have to help you to feel empowered and comfortable in making the decision to choose treatment.
